For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation… Romans 1:16

Written By: Zack Morgan

It’s been awhile since I’ve contributed to my wonderful sister’s blog, but I’ll talk more about that later.  I left you with a probably perplexing question at the end of Part 1.  I asked (in not so many words), “Do you think God will send a revival of blessing to our country if His children are tolerating the uncontested killing of HIS precious image bearers in the womb?”  The answer is NO.  We are in the midst of experiencing His punitive response for the allowance of child killing which He promised us in His Word many years ago (Psalm 160).  We can’t simply pound the heavens with prayers while we allow pre-born children to be butchered at the hands of abortion doctors and expect God to answer our prayers with blessing. Can you imagine how you would respond if someone killed your kids?  With balance, I am in NO WAY saying that we should cease praying for the sovereign reviving work of God in the hearts of his people.  We must continue to labor in pray (without ceasing—1 Thess. 5:16), but we must also act by fully forsaking the practice and support of abortion. Praying and repenting must be practiced without the exclusion of either or.

We must stop what we’re doing and think long and hard about the reality of abortion. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the only response we can make if we mentally address abortion is action. Action to help save babies. Thoughts lead to words, words lead to actions. If our mentality towards abortion doesn’t change (more accurately, become transformed by the Word of God—Romans 12:2), we will not produce actions to help stop it. It’s not rocket science. Babies are being butchered and ALL OF US need to do something to stop that from happening.

I’m not saying every one of us should be out in front of an abortion mill pleading with deceived mothers and fathers to let their babies live (those folks called to this ministry are my true heroes ), but every single one of us should do SOMETHING. We MUST allow the reality of what’s happening in abortion clinics all around our nation to interrupt our plans and cause us to act. The urgent needs of others should always cause us to alter our priorities and plans and help out.

Ask yourself this question: What would you have done if you lived in mid-20th century Germany where millions of Jews were being hurried off to their gruesome deaths? Of those murdered, 1.5 million were precious children. I think in hindsight you would have done something to help just one person escape the murderous hands of those callous executioners. What if you lived in 18th and 19th century America when people of color were being lynched, sold, murdered, and torn from their families? Looking back we all tell ourselves, “How could people treat people like that? I know if I’d been there, I would have tried to stop it. I would have tried to help.”

We have become so desensitized by the dominating mentality of our surrounding culture that indifference and apathy is the common attitude towards abortion. Can you imagine getting the news that a crazed man had hijacked a school bus and drove a bus load of toddlers to a house where he was systematically killing them with absolute impunity? Then imagine hearing that the home where he was killing the kids was close to your proximity. You look over to your friend, frantically tell him the news, and instead of joining you in an effort to rescue those children, he shrugs his shoulders and goes about his business. His attitude of apathy and indifference was the mindset that kept him from possibly rescuing children. I think any reasonable person would hear that news and allow the URGENCY of the situation to interrupt their current plans so they could try to help save those immeasurably precious lives. I think any reasonable person would do SOMETHING; Make a phone call, scream for help, or maybe even rush into the home at the cost of their own lives to save others.

We must allow the urgency of abortions occurring all around us to interrupt our current plans so we can do what God has called us to do (not the same for everybody) to help save priceless precious preborn lives. R.C. Sproul Jr. rightly says, “One cannot overreact to the issue of abortion.”

God has always interrupted the plans of people.

He interrupted Moses as he was tending his sheep, Paul as he was riding along horseback, Peter as he was casting his nets for hopefully a good haul, and on and on it goes. He even interrupts people mid-sentence! Peter on the Mount of Transfiguration wanted to construct shelters, but God wouldn’t even let that building plan begin to exist in theory—he snuffed it out before Peter could put a period on the end of his plan. The Prodigal Son had a plan to wax eloquent about his unworthiness before his father, but his gracious dad’s love for his son quickly quieted him. The Bible does not give weight to the plans of man but to the purposes of God. God interrupts us all the time: Mary’s life was interrupted by a miraculous child, Jonah was interrupted by a daunting task, and Matthew was interrupted sitting in his miserly misery at a tax collectors booth.

When God does interrupt, He always does something astounding. He doesn’t ask us for advice. He neither reveals a plan that centers on an individual’s particular life or aspirations. God’s plans don’t revolve around us. What He does do is simply reveal His plan that revolves around Him and His desires.

Let’s get this straight: HE WANTS ALL OF US TO HELP SAVE THE BABIES HE LOVES AND DEVELOPS IN THE WOMB.

He then discloses how He wants us to be involved so He can work in and through us to accomplish His goals, not ours.   Think about Peter the moments before Christ interrupted his work day. Let’s check it out:

“As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”  At once they left their nets and followed him.” (Matthew 4:18-20)

“Wait, wait, wait Jesus! That sounds nice but I’ve got to make ends meet! This is my livelihood here.” “Jesus! Fish for men? I’m not good at that, in fact, I don’t even know what that means!” “Jesus, hold on just a second? Just let me make a little more cash then I’ll follow you. I don’t think you know how much following you will cost me.” Peter could have said my imagined responses, right? Jesus interrupted his work day. Jesus called him to stop what he knew to follow him into the unknown. Jesus specified what he wanted Peter to do, not what Peter told him he wanted to do. Following Jesus would come with a cost (it always does—Luke 14). Wouldn’t NOT following Jesus be reasonable on at least a financial level?

But, Peter didn’t say a word (very much unlike what we know about Peter’s personality). By the grace of God the Scriptures record that he didn’t speak but ACTED IN OBEDIENCE TO THE CALLING AND PLAN OF JESUS. Did it cost him? We know it did. But, it was the right thing to do and we are all beneficiaries of Peter’s decision and part in the redemptive plan of God. Oskar Schindler made the decision to save hundreds and hundreds of Jews. Did it cost him? Very much. But think of the thousands upon thousands of lives that were conceived and continue to be blessed because of his selfless actions.

Changing course for the purpose of being obedient to the will and plan of God is not a comfortable process to go through, but it is the right course to take. More specifically, changing the course of your life and actively working to save the lives of babies will come at a cost, but it’s the right thing to do. Abortion is the most horrific and heinous evil happening in our world. It’s the mass genocide of your neighbors that you and I are called to love and rescue (Deut. 6:5; Proverbs 24:11) WE MUST DO SOMETHING TO END ABORTION UNTIL IT IS ENDED.

If you are, praise God and thank you. If you aren’t, get connected to great churches and like-minded people of God that are doing a great job biblically fighting against abortion. Support them with your prayers and finances. Here’s a few websites of those who are doing well in the fight: www.crossencountersmin.com; apologiachurch.com; babiesaremurderedhere.com; 180movie.com. Most importantly, pray and ask God how you can help and the Lord will lead you. Remember, it will cost you, but think of all the beneficiaries that will be blessed because of your work and sacrifice.

When we encourage and challenge you to get into the fight against child murder, we ARE NOT SAYING that you should run over to your pastor’s office and let him have it if he isn’t involved in abortion ministry. You should be fully submitted to your spiritual leadership, serve them well, and stay rooted where the Lord has planted you. I would encourage a humble and well informed discussion with your pastor and see where that leads. Involvement with other churches active in abortion ministry should be activity that succeeds a blessing and endorsement from your pastor or spiritual eldership. Slandering the Bride of Christ for not being involved in the fight against abortion is rooted in self righteous legalism. God does not take kindly to his bride being maligned or slandered. Would you if someone spoke that way about your wife? If we are not connected to the Body of Christ in every facet of our lives, we will spiritually shrivel and produce self righteousness, finger wagging, and legalism. Fight against abortion with the complete backing and approval of your spiritual leadership.

Like I mentioned in the first paragraph, I haven’t contributed to this blog because I went through a difficult season of examining my role in the fight against abortion because of all the push back I was getting from professing Christians. In Part 3, I’ll address common pro-abortion arguments that come from unbelievers and, UNIMAGINABLY, from people who profess to be Christians. Just to be clear: THERE ARE NO LOGICAL, SENSIBLE, OR REASONSABLE ARGUMENTS TO SUPPORT THE MURDER OF BABIES. I hope what I’ve written primarily glorifies the Lord and helps you to examine your life, change, and do your part to resist this great evil. Let me know if I can help.
